NARA

The starting point will be the imposing Todai-ji Temple, one of the largest wooden structures in the world famous for housing the 15meters tall, seated giant Buddha and for bringing health and good luck. Your tour continues with a walk in Nara Park, a large park built in 1880 and renowned for its deers freely roaming around and later you will move to Horyu-ji Temple founded in 607 by Prince Shotoku. It is said to be the oldest Temple in Japan featuring the world’s oldest surviving cypress wooden structures.  This Temple features rare entasis wooden pillars, 209,4 cm statue of eleven-headed Kannon (also known as the Bodhisattva of mercy), and a five-storied pagoda, which is the oldest one in the world. In particular, this Pagoda has never been destroyed by an earthquake thanks to its central column which can absorb the tremors. The Tokyo Skytree was built using the same ancient aseismic technique of Horyu-ji Temple’s Pagoda.
