GEISHA ENTERTAINMENT EXPERIENCE
A maiko is an apprentice geisha in Kyoto and their jobs consist of performing songs, dances and playing the shamisen or other traditional Japanese instruments for visitors during banquet/parties, also known as “ozashiki-asobi” in exclusive tea houses called “ochaya”. These young women, besides being known for their charm and grace, are trained for years before becoming professional geisha. Maiko and Geisha differ in age, appearance and skills. The best place to see Geisha in Kyoto is the renowned Hanamikoji-dori street in Gion District, Kamishichiken District and Ponto-cho but make sure to follow the privacy rules when you see them. For example, Maiko do not take photos with tourists since they are paid for their time.
Through this rare experience you will have the rare opportunity of getting in touch with the unique world of the traditional Japanese culture by interacting with maiko during tea ceremonies or “ozashiki-asobi” parties. Not only you can enjoy their traditional drinking game with them such as “Konpira Fune Fune” and “Yakyuken”, which resemples to rock, paper scissor game, but also take commemorative photos, talk with them, and enjoy their performances featuring music and dance.
Fall in love with Japanese culture even more with this unique and lifetime memory.
