SUMO EXPERIENCE

Sumo Experience (Tokyo)

Have you ever imagined yourself as a Sumo Wrestler?

If you are interested in Japan national sport, then Sumo is the perfect experience for you. You can watch sumo wrestlers` practice and training from a short distance at a Sumo stable. Moreover, you will be taught about Sumo history and its fascinating roots which lie in Shinto (Japanese indigenous religion).

In the end, you can climb the dohyo circular ring and experience firsthand being a Sumo wrestler by wearing a mawashi (loincloth). Above the dohyo there is a floating roof designed as a Shinto Shrine`s roof to symbolize the sacred nature of the sport.

The Sumo wrestlers will teach you the basic movements and techniques of this combat sport.

Furthermore, you will have the possibility of interacting with Sumo wrestlers and having lunch with them eating the famous “Chankonabe” (Japanese stew).

Sumo is renowned for its strict hierarchical system and Chanko nabe is no exception, in fact it is served according to seniority rank. Chanko nabe is not only “eating a meal”, is a very precious time where younger wrestlers receive advices from their seniors, ensuring and increasing a sense of mutual trust and solidarity as if they were a family.
